چکیده

The objective of this study is to evaluate the contributions ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) practices water–energy–food (WEF) nexus balance, design practical pathways, and analyze barriers towards achievement EbA-WEF balance. An area case descriptive methods were used data collected from 50 community forests (CFs) spread across three regions in Gambia. Extensive information relevant literature sources was also referred study. Fourteen priority EbA established categorized into four major groups based on their application similarities. Among anticipated ecosystem services enhanced water resource conservation, food feed production, energy supply, improved livelihoods enhance resilience. Pathways how each practice under broad category contributes water, energy, developed demonstrate they individually collectively contribute Key enablers identified included a conducive policy framework, institutional support, diverse incentives, information, knowledge, technology transfer, climate non-climate cited as impediments. paper concludes by outlining recommendations overcome barriers.

The nexus of food, energy, and water.

The Earth's population is expected to exceed 9 billion by 2050, posing significant challenges in meeting human needs while minimally affecting the environment. To support this population, we will need secure and safe sources of food, energy, and water. The nexus of food, energy, and water is one of the most complex, yet critical, issues that face society. There is no more land to exploit, and t...

The food-energy-water nexus: A framework for sustainable development modeling

Energy, water, and food are facing present and future challenges triggered by climate change, population growth, human behavior, and economics. Management strategies for energy, water, and food are possible through policies, technology, and related education. However, the links between resources (energy, water, and food) and impacting factors (population increase, human behavior, economics, and...

The food-water nexus: irrigation water quality, risks to food safety, and the need for a systems-based preventive approach.

T his year’s World Water Day focused on the food-water nexus with the theme “Water and Food Security: The World is Thirsty Because We are Hungry.” While much of the emphasis under this theme focused on the quantities of water used for food produc tion, the quality of water is also important to that function. Water quality can also have sig nificant effects on health. In this context, the qual...
